2016 Memories Take 1

2-12-16

R2: if you had to lose a finger or toe which one would you pick?
Me: Probably a pinky finger, they get used less often.
R3: If I had to pick something to lose it would be my hair, not like an arm.., I’m gonna need those!

2-18-16

R2: When we get a dog can we get two? A brown one AND a black one? I read last night that black dogs are the least likely to be adopted.
Me: That’s true, most black dogs are put to sleep.
R1:WHAT? WHY? What’s wrong with black dogs? People are racist!

Almost 2

R4 is so much fun. I can’t believe she’s already turning 2… I’m having a bit of a case of the feels about it. She’s our last. So all of these first are our last firsts. It’s hard.

She talks a ton now, having recently experienced a surge in her language. One of my favorite things about this age is how she says “ah” before every word and it can me I or I want. She LOVES dogs and gets so excited, making a big O with her mouth, whenever she hears one bark. She also loves to see big trucks on the road when we’re traveling (which we do often due to R2 going to B’ham for her braces and R1 going to Atlanta for OIT) and yells truck (guck) whenever she sees one.

Ry = Yi Yi
Raeghan = Yay Yay
Ries = Dies (Ries with a D)
Baby = Dady
Lollipop = lalalala
Potty = Tee

She also says outside, Mom, Dad, Elmo (Eh-oh), Wiggles (she wiggles her shoulders and says boo) and Ew (eeyoo).

She’s become a bit of a picky eater, kind of a let down after all the stuff she ate her first year. She’ll almost always eat rice, yogurt, bananas, and blueberries.

She loves to help the big kids and I do things around the house. She usually refuses to be fed, preferring to do it herself. She LOVES babies of all kinds and almost always has a doll in her arms. She also likes to play “mom and dad” with most anything: cars, silverware, blocks, little people. She has them talk to each other in her gibberish and throws in a Mom and Dad here and there, it’s adorable. She also likes to drop her pants and shake her butt saying, “booyee”!! She loves to swing, saying “I hi” and will swing the entire time we’re at the park. She loves her Mum mum’s (nursing) and still nurses about 4-6 times a day and would do so more often if I let her, LOL. She gives hugs and kisses and high fives and fist bumps. She sleeps on her own pillow, something the others didn’t do until they were older, when she’s done nursing she rolls over and crawls up to her pillow.

She’s amazing and smart and funny as all get out. We couldn’t imagine life without her.

We went to AL a day early so we could spend extra time with B.

We went to the mall to check out the Stride Rite going-out-of-business sale and scored two awesome pairs of shoes for R3 and R4. R4 was in heaven in that store. We walked in and she exclaimed, “SHOES!!” and then sat on the bench and took her shoes off. The big kids brought her pair after pair to try on and she strutted around the store in each pair. When it was time to go she was NOT putting her old shoes back on… so she left wearing a new pair. $30 for two pairs of Stride Rite shoes is not a bad deal!

Then B paid for her to ride the carousel because her little heart was broken (and she hadn’t napped).

After the mall we went to the park but didn’t stay long because it was getting colder by the minute as the sun went down.

Friday we went to UAB for R2’s appt and then drove home. We got home just in time for R1’s basketball game and then we went to see the hockey game.

November Notables (FB Posts)

Nov 18:

R4 tried to nurse from R1!!

Nov 23:

R2 said she would forfeit her 4 things for Christmas (something want/need/wear/read) if she could have one of those plastic figures to put in the yard to decorate. This kid.

Nov 25:

Remy loves her El-o panties so much she has to wear them outside her clothes, too.

Nov 27:

Remy just told me “No, ma’am!” when I took the seat out of the van that she was trying to sit on.

R1 is playing Halo with R4. He shot her and she fell down. She pointed at the screen and said, “Uh oh, ee dead.” This is what happens when you have a big brother.

Nov 28:

Decorating the tree…
Raeghel: It needs more lights!
Chris: No, it’s fine.
R2: You don’t understand.
Chris: I do understand, you have an obsession.

R4’s First Library Book

We go to the library on a fairly regular basis. R4 has recently taken more of an interest in books although she prefers to read them herself rather than let any of us read them to her. Yesterday at the library she grabbed a book, walked over to me and in her jibber-jabber asked me if she could get a book. I said, “You want to check out that book?” She nodded. I said, “Okay.” And she said, “Yay!” and ran off. :) It was adorable. Heck, pretty much everything she does is adorable. Before we left I explained to her that the book she picked wasn’t a book for her and led her to the board books. She picked Sandra Boynton’s But Not the Hippopotamus and took it herself to the check out and then carried it to the van. She’s since read it on the potty every time she goes. Be still my heart. This child. She’s just amazing.

My baby is one…

:( This year went by so very quickly. It’s been so neat to watch R4 change into the awesome little person that she is but it’s also hard as she is very likely our last baby.

We had a great party with friends and family, she looooooved her cake!

R2 went with Seester when she left and J stayed here, it’s been a fun few weeks.

Smart Baby

Last night R4 was trying to unplug Chris’ cell phone and couldn’t manage it so she grabbed my hand, put the phone in it and grunted – effectively asking me to do it for her.

Then this morning when I sat in the rocker to nurse her for a nap she refused. She kept sitting up and reaching for the bed. So I laid in the bed with her and she nursed to sleep and slept for 1.5 hours!

Constantly Amazed (R4 is 6 Months!)

Our wonderful little bundle is now 6 months old!

R4_month_6-sm

It blows my mind but Remy wakes up mostly dry every morning and FILLS the potty. There’s maybe one pee in her overnight diaper! I haven’t changed a poopy diaper all week! She goes in the potty first thing in the morning.

She’s just so wonderful. Her siblings fight over who gets to hold her, potty her, change her diaper – they’re still mesmerized. Everything she does is adorable!

What EC Looks Like Here…

I did EC for a short time with both R2 and R3 but didn’t stick with it. This time I did more reading and gave it a shot, and almost quit again until I realized that even though I tend to be an all or nothing person, it IS possible to do EC part time. I figure I’m not the only one like me so I wanted to share how EC is working for us to encourage others.

Honestly the only time I’m consistent is every time she wakes up. I put her on the potty first thing in the morning (she FILLS IT UP!) and after every nap. There are other times when I can tell she’s getting ready to poo that I put her on and am sometimes successful in catching but, really, I don’t know what her cue is, if she has one. I’m busy with 4 kids, getting ready to move, then we’ll be home schooling… so I’m not going to beat myself up about “not being in tune” with her. I know when she’s hungry, tired, etc and that’s enough! LOL

The way I see it, EC is a chance for her to be more aware of her body and be used to the potty when she’s ready to be done with diapers. :)

Even the big kids get are into it!
