The Armor of God and American Quilts

Yesterday during school R1 asked me to teach him more about the armor of God from Ephesians 6:11-17 so I found this and printed three copies of the person and the armor and today we colored, laminated and velcroed (yes, I make up words) and this is what we have!

Here’s R3 coloring hers after her nap. I’m not sure she’d have been as into it if she hadn’t seen the finished ones by the big kids after her nap.

Then for our art project, we are studying North America this week (and for the next 4 weeks) so I chose the Early American Quilt from our art book Global Art. Each child picked their fabric and I cut out their squares – then we laid them out on our posterboard (12×12 for the girls and 8×30 for R1) and glued them down.

Here is a pic of the three “quilts.”

Just Another Day of School

R1 and R2 made their Celtic brooches to wear on their cloaks while R3 napped on Wed, here is a pic of the finished product on Thurs.

He was disappointed when I said I would not paint his face blue. :)

R3 did some lacing while the bigs did their worksheets.

And then the girls did some bean sorting while R1 finished up his math.

Girlie Birthday Party

So, I’m behind on blog posts… what’s new? LOL We had a party for R2, R3 and Juju last Saturday. I baked each girl their own small cake and we got a Costco Chocolate cake for the guests. We swam and played and ate cake, what could be better?

At 4:31 This Afternoon

My first girl, my first home-birthed baby, my biggest (9 lbs) baby will be 5 years old. She was due July 28 but decided to hang out in the womb for an extra week. We lived in Orlando at the time, and it was so hot I don’t think I left the house at all those last two weeks other than to walk around the neighborhood every night trying to convince her to come.

She’s such a wonderfully awesome little person and we are so God loaned her to us.

Button Pictures and Notebooks

R2 and I went to Target the other day to pick up a few school supplies. They had these cute composition books for $1 and I told her to pick one for herself and her sister. She asked if she could also get one for Trinity, so I said sure.

Fast forward to today, Trin came over to play and swim – and ended up getting hurt by the pool. While hanging out and watching a movie they decided to draw/write in their notebooks.

I was surfing and came upon this blog post by a sweet friend of mine and thought I’d give it a shot. The girls LOVED it!!

Can We Put It On The List?

A few years ago I got the wonderful idea from someone to let the kids put the things they beg for in the store on a “list.” Now, I’ll be honest, I rarely buy things from this list but the simple act of them knowing that it’s on a list and I’m aware that they want it gets out of the store with no tears and minimal begging.

These days the list is pictures on my phone. Yesterday I had to get a few things from Target and R2 tagged along. Her birthday is in August so she’s mindful of that, LOL. But the list is good no matter what time of year it is. It’s a great little ritual to help us all.

If you’re interested in R2′s list from yesterday – it’s here on facebook. :) Of course, there are things on her list that aren’t pictured, this is just the stuff that caught her eye in Target yesterday!

Grateful for Puke Bugs

My sweet middle child, my first daughter spent 18 of the last 48 hours puking. It finally ceased at 6pm last night and she slept until 10am this morning. My heart broke for her – a tummy bug is one of those things Mommy Cures are useless against. I tried, don’t get me wrong, but nothing helped. Her little body just kept getting hit wave after wave.

I’m thankful for that tummy bug for it reminded me to be thankful. It reminded me that many moms watch their babies wither away, their bodies attacked by uncurable diseases, some whose bodies attack themselves. Grateful that it was just a bug, just a momentary blip of on the radar of her healthy life. I look into her gaunt face this morning, she looks like a different child and I am SO INCREDIBLY grateful that she is ok. That this afternoon she will look and feel so much better and that tomorrow she will most likely be back to her smiling, sassy self.

My heart breaks for any mother who has to look at her child and NOT know that child will get better. Or worse still, know they won’t.

Thank you, Father God, for tummy bugs and sore throats. For helping me to remember your power and grace. For keeping my children safe and healthy.

Memorial Day Weekend in Mentone

My sweet, wonderful friend Catherine invited us to stay with her and her awesome family at their cabin in Mentone this past weekend and it was a BLAST! The kids all got along WONDERFULLY and we all had so much fun! There were quite a few firsts:

R1′s first time driving (a golf cart, but driving on his own, no less)
R2 and R3′s first time in a boat and in a lake
R1 and R2′s first time hillbilly skiing
All three had first time fishing experiences, golf cart rides and shooting BB guns!

I got to lay around and read (TWO books) on the SC BOE’s new Nook (shhh!), which I quickly fell in love with. And have wonderful conversations with Catherine and the other adults. I am enamored with Catherine’s amazing parents and thoroughly enjoyed having morning coffee on their back porch with them three mornings in a row – they are delightful to be around and an inspiration.

I, of course, took a ton of pics. Not as many as I normally would have but I was trying to BE in the moment and not just photograph it. It was hard! LOL

So, enough talk, here’s some pics (click to enlarge):

Happy Birthday to Me

I opened my eyes this morning to my three sweet angels holding out birthday cards to me. I wish I could take snapshots with my eyes. I want to burn the image in my mind forever!

My wonderful husband helped them make cards while I was at the movies with a friend last night. (He also did this for Mother's Day). It makes me feel SO loved!!

Here's a pic Seester took of us on Mother's day
