What to Send Your Compassion Child

My friend Meeshi made a great blog post that I refer back to every time I go shopping for one of our Compassion children. I thought I should share it.

The kids love to go and pick out things to send to each of the children. Meeshi also told me about this great site – http://www.hotprints.com/ – where you can get FREE photo books (you just pay a small shipping fee). These are PERFECT to send overseas. Here’s a pic of one we just made:

The kids often ask us questions about our life so I thought this was a great way to show them. It’s perfect for shipping, too, it’s 8.5 x 11 and thin.

Blanca and Manik

I was approved to be a Compassion Advocate. The children we sponsor and write to have brought such a blessing to our family and I wanted to help more so when they contacted me about being an advocate I said yes.

What this means is that I am responsible for 2 children each month – for finding them a sponsor family. I’m excited and nervous – they aren’t on the website, I am their only hope!

Watch this

I just rec’d the packets for these two beautiful children and had to share in case any of you are moved to sponsor or would like to share and help them find a sponsor.

This is Blanca:

This is Blanca from Bolivia – she will be 6 in November. She lives in a village with her mother, father and three siblings where the typical house is made from dirt floors, mud walls and corrugated tin roofs. Most adults earn $60 a month…. Your $38 a month will allow Compassion to provide her with Bible teaching, medical exams, recreational activities and tutoring.

This is Manik:

This is Manik from Bangladesh. He turned 7 in February. He lives with his father and mother in a village where the houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and thatched roofs. Most adults are unemployed and those who do work only ear $50 a month. Common health problems include malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, viral hepatitis, typhoid, asthma, and skin diseases.

It’s $38 a month to sponsor a child. You get a packet with their picture and personal information and they send you letters. Me and the kids have so much fun putting together packages for our kids each month.

I knew we’d be blessing a child when we signed on, what I didn’t know was how much this child would bless US.

If you have any questions about sponsoring, please ask away! If you want to sponsor one of these children, please let me know and I’ll get it set up. If you want to choose a different child please click here: http://www.compassion.com/sponsor_a_child/default.htm?referer=120669

Letter from Michael

We sent extra money at Christmas and in March for Michael’s birthday. We just got a letter from him thanking us and he sent pictures!

He says, “he likes learning about Jesus. He learns about Jesus at church, school and at project. He also says everything is going on well and things are also moving on smoothly at school.”

His prayer for our family, “May the good Lord richly bless you and save you from all harms of the evil one.” AMEN!!!

He told us the gift money for his birthday was used to buy a pair of shoes and second hand clothes to be worn at home and for his birthday party. Isn’t he adorable?

It makes me so happy to see his sweet face! I can’t wait until we can add another sponsor child. :)

I just found out today we received another correspondence child, Andressa, I’ll post about her as soon as I receive her info!

Day 6 | 30 Day Photo Challenge

A picture of a person you’d love to trade places with for a day.

I would love to trade places with one of my Sponsored children. I would love to let them live a day in the lap of luxury – because compared to the way they live, I do live a luxurious life. And I would love to REALLY know what it’s like to live their lives so I can be more sensitive to it. It’s so easy for us to sit over here in our comfy lives and feel sorry for those less fortunate but I think we’d all DO MORE about it if we had to truly experience their suffering.

Damali

We finally rec’d a Correspondent child! I’m so excited. She’s a high schooler in Uganda and I can’t wait to get to know her. I rec’d her packet in the mail today and I can’t stop staring at her beautiful face.

Care Package for Michael

R1 and I went to the store after basketball practice to get some things to send to Michael. I thought it might help others who are wondering what to send.

Grab and Go
Birthday card – his birthday is at the end of March
A sheet of stickers
coloring book
pages from R1′s favorite magazines and activity books

And my friend Michelle has a great blog post here with lots more great ideas!

Michael in Ghana

So my friend Meeshi has been an advocate and sponsor for Compassion International for a while now and God has really put it on my heart to sponsor a child. I have looked at the site so many times, at all those sweet faces. The other day I read a story on her blog that just broke me. I asked R1 about it yesterday, if it was something he would like to do and he said he would give half of his allowance every month to a child we sponsored. I almost had to pull off the road I was so touched. MY child. He’s amazing. I just love that he’s so generous. So this morning we looked at the site and I narrowed it down to 10 boys in Ghana, aged 6-9, and let him choose. After looking at me with big, sad eyes and saying, “I want to sponsor them ALL” he settled on this one, but only after I promised him we would sponsor more in the future.

This is Michael from Ghana. He is 9 years old and lives with his mom. He is in the first grade.

We sent him a letter through Compassion’s website today but can’t wait to get our package so we can mail him some things. I feel so blessed to be able to help this child and can’t wait to see what he teaches us. R1 has started collecting things from his room to sell so we can send extra to Michael for Christmas.
