What Do You Want to Learn?

I interviewed R3 today, hope to come back and update with the other kids’ responses.

R3: I wanna learn dancing! I wanna learn playing the piano. I want mommy to teach me how to do school like Ry is.

Elephant Watering Can and AL State Flag Cookies

One of R3′s chores is to water the plants. She was carrying a cup of water back and forth to fill it about 3 trips and was asking for a watering can. :) I found the cutest idea in the Family Fun magazine and decided to make it for her.

Here we are gluing on the eyes and ears.

And here she’s showing it off:

Sister had to jump in on the pic:

And here she is using it!

Big brother likes it too:

Later on, after Seester and her crew arrived, we made AL State Flag Cookies.

Wanna make some?

Graham Crackers
Cream cheese (or icing)
Twizzlers (or red piping icing)

Put icing/cheese on cracker, arrange twizzler/red icing in an X – viola!

The Armor of God and American Quilts

Yesterday during school R1 asked me to teach him more about the armor of God from Ephesians 6:11-17 so I found this and printed three copies of the person and the armor and today we colored, laminated and velcroed (yes, I make up words) and this is what we have!

Here’s R3 coloring hers after her nap. I’m not sure she’d have been as into it if she hadn’t seen the finished ones by the big kids after her nap.

Then for our art project, we are studying North America this week (and for the next 4 weeks) so I chose the Early American Quilt from our art book Global Art. Each child picked their fabric and I cut out their squares – then we laid them out on our posterboard (12×12 for the girls and 8×30 for R1) and glued them down.

Here is a pic of the three “quilts.”

Busy Box Ideas

Sometimes my blog is more of an idea list than a blog! I want to make some busy boxes for the 3yo and am compiling the ideas here so I can find them!

Texture matching – take little blocks of wood and glue fabric, velcro, seeds, sand, etc to the surface. Make 2 of each, and then blindfold them and they have to find the pairs by feeling.

Mystery bag – fill a bag with small objects that she would know. She reaches inside and feels an object and has to guess what it is.

Sounds for Sensory Jars

Scents for Sensory Jars

vanilla
peppermint
lemon juice
cinnamon
cloves
orange rinds

…fill 2 jars with the same scent, and they have to smell to find the matching jars.

Bread and Butter… Pickles, That Is!

I made this with the help of my dear friend’s mom – she printed the recipe and mentored me through it. :)

I’ll have to post the recipe later, once I get a copy. :) But we started with 20 cucumbers (locally raised, from a friend) and 6 onions, I think. Chopped them all up, added garlic and salt and let them sit for 6 hours.

Then we mixed the spices, sugar and vinegar, brought it to a boil and added the cucs/onions – brought it back to a boil.

We found a cup that fit perfectly into our jars with the bottom cut off to use as a funnel and filled the jars.

Stuck them in the fridge to cool – we tried ‘em for the first time last night…

And they are YUMMY!!

Just Another Day of School

R1 and R2 made their Celtic brooches to wear on their cloaks while R3 napped on Wed, here is a pic of the finished product on Thurs.

He was disappointed when I said I would not paint his face blue. :)

R3 did some lacing while the bigs did their worksheets.

And then the girls did some bean sorting while R1 finished up his math.

Plants

We planted some Tickle Me plants on the 17th, will keep you posted on how they grow. It says they should respond within 3 weeks.

One of R3′s daily chores is to water our basil plants:

Girlie Birthday Party

So, I’m behind on blog posts… what’s new? LOL We had a party for R2, R3 and Juju last Saturday. I baked each girl their own small cake and we got a Costco Chocolate cake for the guests. We swam and played and ate cake, what could be better?
