Squeebie Quotes

R3: (pointing to rice cakes) Can I have one of those?
Me: Sure.
R3: Can I eat it in the car? I’ll give you a dollar if you let me.

(NO, I don’t bribe my kids, but methinks maybe the bigs bribe the littles!)

She asks for chocolate and if I say no she says, ‘But my belly hurts!!’

I was reading a book and she came up and said, “Don’t be mean to your book!”
Me: How am I being mean?
R3: Talk to it!
She comes over and runs her finger under the words and says, “Jesus went downstairs.”
Me: Jesus went downstairs?
R3: Yes. Now talk to your book!

(sometimes it’s like talking to an alien, I’m not sure we’re even speaking the same language! LOL)

Me: You’re cute!
R3: NO, I’m Rieslin!!

Bead for Life

www.beadforlife.org

BeadforLife eradicates extreme poverty by creating bridges of understanding between impoverished Africans and concerned world citizens. Ugandan women turn colorful recycled paper into beautiful beads. Women in Northern Uganda gather shea nuts and press them into shea butter for cosmetics and soaps. And people who care open their hearts, homes and communities to buy and sell both products.

They have these great Bead Parties where WE can help spread the word and sell these wonderful hand-crafted products. Many of the women who make the beads have been left as widows and struggled to merely survive when their husbands died. Being able to make an income by rolling beads has been a life-saving and life-changing opportunity. But, in order to make money, their product has to sell. This is where the Bead Parties come in.

Check out this link to learn how you can get involved. BeadForLife will send you, at no cost :

* Approximately 275 jewelry items (more for larger BeadParties)
* Shea Butter Soap and Peppermint Lip Balm
* Our inspirational DVD about the beaders, BeadforLife and how to roll a bead
* A CD “From the Heart of BeadforLife” with original Ugandan songs and music
* Educational materials and biographies of some of the beaders
* African recipes
* A pre-paid return label (so you can return what you don’t sell free of charge),
* And much more!

You can set up shop at your church, community center, neighborhood yard-sale, or any other place where people will be converging. This would be a great event to have before Mother’s Day! Promote giving gifts that make a real difference!

BeadForLife is currently running a March Out Of Poverty Challenge and they’re hoping to get 500 Bead Parties registered before March 31st. You can sign up and plan your party for anytime throughout the year!

I just signed up to host one and I can’t wait!

This was a great book. The author did an amazing job of telling separate stories and then bringing them together. All with a twist at the end.

A Weekend Away

I spent the weekend with some great girlfriends in a cabin in Mentone. It was awesome. We had great food, lots of booze and a ton of fun. It was good to get a break from the daily.

And to be completely honest, I did not miss my children. And I’m ok with that. It doesn’t make me a bad mom or mean I don’t love my kids. It just means that I deserve and need a break every once in a while.

I had time to read without interruption, eat when/what I wanted without sharing, sleep when I wanted, talk to adults, like an adult! Things I don’t get to do at home. I don’t resent not getting to do those things, my job is to raise my kids. But I DO enjoy getting to take a break to do those things occasionally. :)

The scenery was beautiful.

I took a walk with friends, snapped some pics and didn’t feel obligated to DO anything!

It was a wonderful, recharging weekend.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday

It’s thursday! So, according to Sydney over at the Daybook, we all get to compile our list of awkard and awesomes for the week. So here we go!

Awkward:

* the pastor’s wife asking to see my new tattoo on Sunday morning, because my sister plastered it all over fb.
* getting out of the car to get gas and not seeing the slick ice patch on the ground.
* trying to get back in the car after pumping the gas, knowing the ice patch is there and still looking like an idiot.
* my sons feet and the awful stench of his shoes that fills any room he chooses to remove his shoes in.
* your baby puking on you every 10 minutes for four hours.

Awesome:

* getting my first tattoo with my wonderful husband – who also got the same tattoo, which he designed.
* three pairs of jeans for R1 for $6 at the Thrift Store.
* when your sister comes over and stays the night so she can be here to watch your kids the next morning while you go to the doctor – so you won’t have to load up your kids at the butt crack of dawn.
* getting to hold and snuggle on the sick 2.5yo that doesn’t always want you to hold and snuggle her.
* homeschooling. not having to get up and load all three kids to drop one off and lather, rinse and repeat. Knowing that my son has a relationship with his sisters that he would never have if he were gone 8 hours a day.
* getting a phone call from a friend on my board with an idea to start a fundraiser for our dear friend whose 2.5yo daughter was just diagnosed with diabetes.

God is good.

Pide

Pide

I made up a soft bread dough, and spread out a tennis ball size glob out, fit in a double handfull of filling, and then pinched the sides up around it in a canoe shape, and then baked.

Here’s the filling, approx, since I didn’t measure anything:

6 cups rough-chopped spinach
1-2 sliced red onions
3-4 chopped garlic cloved
1 1/2 cup small cubed feta cheese
1 cup grated cheese
generous amount of olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Mix together, fill dough, bake, etc. Yum!

Meal Plan Jan 13

I have to put these here because I forget – this makes it easy to figure out what I’m supposed to be cooking.

Cube Steak with mashed potatoes, gravy and kale
Black Bean with Yellow Rice
Tacos
Chicken Spaghetti
Frittata
Chili
GF Pizza
